Active Fuel Pipeline

Case Study Details
Project Highlight
26m Active Fuel Pipeline in the Brisbane River

A unique opportunity for Benchmark Scaffolding and a first of its kind for the Layher FW System.

Challenged with a 26m Active Fuel Pipeline in the Brisbane River, our client came to us with a problem – needing a safe work structure surrounding the full length of an active pipeline with no direct contact or support to the pipe?

Creating bespoke structures like this is our specialty.

Our Solution
Engineering a design that suspended the full 26m length of an active fuel pipeline, Benchmark Scaffolding was the first company in Australia to use the Layher FW System. This unique system spanned the distance without the use of custom-made supports, and reduced manufacturing time, costs and prevented a shutdown.

The versatility of the FW System, designed to offer wide-span bridging compatibilities can form structural trusses, platform trusses or cantilever trusses. The components and capabilities are impressive.

Large portions of the structure were pre-assembled at our yard and trucked to site before being loaded onto a crane barge. Our crew strategically craned the structures into place and assembled the remaining components.

Our team was confronted with a combination of high-risk elements that included active fuel, working over water and at height, as well as weather. Our stringent Safe Working Methods supported our crew to deliver the project on time, on budget and without incident.
