Project Overview
RoadTek – Captain Cook Bridge – Brisbane
Every day, hundreds of thousands of Brisbane commuters travel across the Captain Cook Bridge unaware that there is 80 tonnes of scaffolding installed inside the structural concrete beams.
Benchmark was engaged to install a temporary scaffold access for our client to inspect the internal walls and assist in the entire bridge to be lifted 100mm to replace the headstock bearings. The scaffolding needed to be extra heavy duty to support trolleys carrying the hydraulic jacks and structural members and required a point load of 450kg over a 100mm x 100mm area.
The access to get the scaffolding inside the bridge was the biggest challenge and all 80 tonnes of equipment needed to be passed through a small opening and manually maneuvered into position. All work was completed on nights shift to reduce the impact on neighboring residents.
The client was so impressed with the temporary solution that they purchased the equipment from Benchmark and will leave the scaffolding in position for the next 20 years.
